Zune phone confirmed!

The first models are barely out of the door, but Microsoft's already talking about the next-gen Zune, and it's not just iPod it's after, Microsoft's eyeing mobiles too.

Yep, we've all heard of Apple's mythical iPhone - a sort of iPod/mobile hybrid , but it seems Microsoft's thinking along those lines too, and will let you make calls from a Zune before too long.

Chris Stephenson, general manager of global marketing for Zune let the cat out of the bag yesterday, telling Reuters that "a Zune phone is definitely part of the future of this brand."

The loose-lipped Microsoft boss also reckons it'll chase Apple on the movie front, saying "it's an important part of this product going forward," and pledging to rope studios into showing their films on the handheld.

So, Zune's still got some surprises up its sleeve after all. Now all we're waiting for is a price, and a date to get in line for the 'Pod bothering player.
