Speaking exclusively to T3, our Gadget Personality of the Year for 2009, says: "It's a shame for dear old Symbian, which just hasn't kept up with the times at all, I fear. Sony Ericsson and Nokia, giants as they were, are revealing themselves to be so behind the curve in this department and they may suffer as a result.
"We all owe so much to Nokia because they set the standard for so much that we came to expect from a phone, but It just proves the endless truth that you can't stand still in this business, you really can't."
Fry also speaks at length about Android's fabulous 2009 and predicts big things in the future for Google's open source operating system.
He added: "Android's future is secure and that's good news, because although I may be fond of Apple I want all of these devices to be better and competition drives up productivity, performance and innovation.
"I think the new versions of Android - cupcake, crumpet, tea biscuit and hobnob, whatever they're all called - are getting better. HTC, which is a marvelous company doing some wonderful things, are able to put its own gloss on because of the open source nature of Android.
"When the better chipsets come in with the faster processors and the bigger memory then we'll really see Android make a difference."
