Windows Phone 7 update bricking Samsung phones

Microsoft offers fix for shonky software update

Minor upgrade causing problems for Samsung Omnia 7.

Microsoft’s roll-out of a minor update to Windows Phone 7, intended to pave the way for a bigger, copy and paste-packing upgrade due next month, is not going to plan. Twitter is alive with talk that the Samsung Omnia 7 is being bricked when the update is installed.

The software bump has thrown up the message, “Error Code C101002E. Restoration Error.” While Microsoft had initially suggested punters return their phones to stores for further assistance, it’s now offering an easier solution.

The Big M says if you simply do a hard reset, or just take out the battery and slip it back in again, everything should be dandy. Oh, and don’t try and perform the software update again.
