Facebook movie rental service expanded

Hollywood studio Warner Bros. has revealed it is to offer a further five blockbuster films for rental via the social networking giant Facebook.

Having successfully trialled the Facebook film rental service earlier this month with Batman flick The Dark Knight, Warner Bros. has announced it is to add thriller Inception, Life as We Know It, Yogi Bear and the first two Harry Potter films; Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry potter and the Chamber of Secrets to the fledgling service.

Having offered The Dark Knight to US-based Facebook users in exchange for 30 Facebook Credits, £3.12, the five new feature length additions will run through the same schedule with users splashing out the virtual currency then given 48 hours to view their rented purchase.

Speaking on the expansion to the studio’s Facebook rental services, Warner Bros. President of Digital Distribution, Thomas Gewecke announced: “We’re pleased to expand our test with a variety of titles that will appeal to a broad audience.” He added: .“These titles have substantial followings on Facebook.”
