Vodafone offering HTC Magic next month

Skinny Android gets launch date

Vodafone was a little vague about a launch date when it officially announced the HTC Magic, but now we have something more specific - it's coming in April.

Of course, the phone is exclusive to Vodafone, which plans to dish out a bloody nose to the original Android G1 handset by offering a slimline model lacking the contentious slide-out keyboard. That means you'll be communicating with the device via its 3.2-inch touchscreen and trackball. If you don't fancy the screen input, T-Mobile is still flogging the original G1 which, to be honest, isn't a million miles away from this. Ok, there's some extra memory, video recording and a better battery, but ultimately this is slight evolution rather than a full-blown revolution.

You might want to wait for our blow-by-blow review before committing your cash Oor at least check out our hands-on with the handset), but if the excitement of an all-new Android is just too much, Vodafone is already taking advanced orders ahead of that April release. The handset is free, just as long as you sign up to one of its 'various price plans'.
