Vodafone has officially announced the latest ‘Facebook Phone’ with the Vodafone 555 Blue to launch later this year with a social-networking centric operating system.
Following on from the INQ and HTC Facebook-centric handsets, Vodafone has announced that its latest handset is to do away with the popular Android OS instead packing a new proprietary offering that takes Facebook integration to its core with notifications and status updates available from the homescreen.
Lining up to be a truly budget blower the Vodafone 555 Blue is to do away with 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity instead plumping for the slower EDGE offering whilst other specs see the handset sport a 2-megapixel rear mounted camera and a microSD slot.
“The mobile internet plays a central role in the daily lives of more than 87 million Vodafone customers, many of whom are avid Facebook users,” Vodafone’s Group Terminals Director Patrick Chomet announced.
He added: “The Vodafone 555 Blue is a unique and innovative handset, designed and developed by Vodaphone to offer a simple but powerful Facebook experience for people in both emerging markets and developed economies who want to stay in touch with their friends, wherever they are.”
Whilst a precise release date and confirmed pricing have yet to be officially unveiled reports have suggested the Vodafone 555 Blue will land around the £70 mark on a PAYG basis next month.
