Budget QWERTY slider handset announced by Virgin Media

UK mobile network provider Virgin Media has announced the latest edition to it offering of budget handsets in the full QWERTY slider touting Alcatel VM202.

Despite its bottom-end £29.99 price tag the VM202 handset packs a variety of techy innards including an MP3 player with MP4 video playback, VGA camera and an inbuilt FM radio as well as a 1GB microSD card kindly supplied by the big V.

Offering access to Facebook, Twitter, and Instant Messanger along with user’s emails, the VM202 is a budget handset perfect for the younger generations and their insatiable need to keep in touch by any and all means necessary. Added to this for improved mobile browsing is Opera Mini.

Aware of the possibilities in targeting such an audience Virgin Media’s director of mobile, Jonathan Kini said: "With easy access to Facebook and Twitter plus great multimedia features, the handset is perfect for teenage socialites on the go or as a great messaging device for existing Virgin Media families to take advantage of with huge call savings to be made with free calls between Virgin home phones and Virgin Mobiles."

Customers who top up £10 when buying the Alcatel handset will be treated with 300 additional text messages that thanks to the ‘soft to the touch’ slide out QWERTY of the VM202 will be a joy to type.
