Virgin Media has announced what it is dubbing the “UK’s first next-generation entertainment platform” as the new Virgin Media TV powered TiVo box is unveiled.

With a user friendly graphical interface, the TiVo-powered, internet-connected device is set to feature all the latest in home entertainment platforms including a catch-up service, on-demand programming, a personal video recorder and a range of web-based applications.

Featuring Virgin Media’s digital network, the new box will offer HD and 3D specific channels and through a recommendations engine will learn from user’s viewing habits what shows they might like to watch in the future. This interactive user, product relationship is further boosted by the inclusion of the TiVo “thumbs up/thumbs down” remote buttons that allow users to rate shows.

Speaking on the arrival of the Virgin Media TV powered by TiVo service, Cindy Rose, Executive Director of Digital Entertainment at Virgin Media said: “For the first time, viewers will have a truly personalised viewing experience so they can get the most out of the wonderful worlds of the internet and TV all in one place.”

She added: “We’re really excited to bring our customers what is just the first of successive generations of transformational services based on this unique TiVo-powered platform.”

The 1TB PVR comes equipped with a 10Mb cable broadband modem inbuilt for an immersive internet TV experience and will roll-out later this month with over 160 channels for £199 plus a monthly subscription.
