Virgin Media joins Sky in 3D TV trials

The 3D revolution will not be televised on Virgin just yet...

In a reminder to its closest broadcast rivals, Virgin Media has revealed that they have carried out successful tests with the view of delivering 3D programming.

The trials, carried out on their current cable infrastructure and set-top box, were held over the past few months and given the thumbs up, signalling that the corporation is already equipped to embrace 3D television.

 - 3D technology you can enjoy right now

 - 3D: It's coming

 - Top televisions we want right now

Speaking to our friends over on Tech Radar at the first public demonstration of 3D television in the UK, a Virgin Media spokesman expressed the company's intentions for 3D TV saying, "Virgin Media is always looking at new technology to see if it is something we would like to offer as a service to our customers."

The 3D TV showcase held at Virgin Media’s 44th outlet and new residence on Oxford Street gives Christmas shoppers a look into the visual future by donning the polarised glasses and directing their attention towards the 3D-enabled television set up in-store.

While Sky is eager to have 3D TV set up in homes across the UK by 2010, Virgin sees the evolution at a slightly slower rate with the current 3D demo more a view of things to come and where they currently stand in the process of implementing the next broadcasting innovation.

We imagine though should Sky's 3D debut prove somthing of an instant hit, Virgin Media will not be too far behind them in bringing 3D to the people.
