Virgin boss in on the video-on-demand joint venture
Virgin Media hints at Project Canvas involvement
Virgin Media has suggested that it’d like to be involved in Project Canvas.
The scheme is a BBC-led joint venture made up of major UK terrestrial broadcasters and ISPs, aimed at taking internet-based programming from the “sit up world of the PC to the sit back world of TV”.

The company has suggested that incorporating the Project Canvas platform into its next-gen set-top boxes would be beneficial, as long as the consortium opens up the standards of the venture.
Neil Berkett, Virgin Media chief, warns: “Unless the consortium modifies its approach, rather than harnessing the full potential of digital technology, it will emerge as a restrictive and anti-competitive attempt to hijack the future of home entertainment.”
