Unlocked iPhones kaput
Hacked versions of Apple's phone scuttled by new software update.
Unlocked iPhone owners beware. Apple's just released the latest software update for their cell, 1.1.1, and it looks as if your once AT&T handset is primed to become a very expensive paperweight.
Punters who used the likes of iPhoneSIMFree to remove the shackles of a US contract shouldn't touch this latest addition if they still want to be show off their killer phone.
We're hearing countless stories of folks sticking on the update, which includes the iTunes WiFi store, a new calculator icon and battery info on your Bluetooth headset, only to find their phone no longer works once it's all done.
See, you need to reactivate the blower once you've finished, but all you get is a message telling you the SIM is not AT&T supported.
Hackers have set to work on a new strategy, meaning for now you'll need to relock your phone to get the update and wait on further news.
And if you've got 3rd party apps on there, don't expect them to be there once you've reactivated your phone either. Apple's seen that they're completely removed too.
It looks as if Apple has come good on its promise to use software updates to scupper hackers follies.
Our advice, forget importing one hold out for November 9th to get yourself a legit iPhone instead.
