Micro-blogging site Twitter has announced its latest social networking milestone revealing it has topped the 100 million global user mark.
With more than 100 million users signed on to the Facebook rival Twitter has also confirmed that more than 50 million of its users log in to the service every day with more than five billion Tweets being sent per month.
“Five years ago, Twitter came to life when @jack sent the first Tweet to his seven followers,” a post on the official Twitter blog read. “Now, 100 million active users around the globe turn to Twitter to share their thoughts and find out what’s happening in the world right now.”
Whilst more than 50 million users log in to the micro-blogging site on a daily basis Twitter has confirmed that up to 40 per cent of active users access the service in order to read content only, never sending Tweets of their own.
