Touch-tastic future phone!

Synaptics has cooked up one of the hottest phone designs we've seen, and it's clever too - using a revolutionary touchscreen to guess what you're doing.

Using what Synaptics has dubbed ClearPad technology, the Onyx phone can tell whether you're pointing or tapping at the screen, and recognises shapes and gestures too.

It'll even know whether you're holding it next to your head, or pointing with a finger, and makes using menus much more natural.

Synaptics says you'll be able to close tasks by "swiping an X over them", or send messages by "swiping them off the screen."

The concept design also houses GPS and a music player, and although it's still on the drawing board, Synaptics reckons it won't be long 'til all our communications, PDA, media and navigation boxes combine in a form like this.

We hope they're right. The Onyx phone is a seriously swish bit of kit, and that touch screen is just crying out for our sticky fingers. The future of phones has never looked more appealing!
