Third party iPhone apps confirmed
Jobs says outside apps will make it onto Apple's wonderphone.
Steve Jobs has confirmed that the iPhone will take on third party apps. Speaking at D: All Things Digital over in New York, Mr Apple told audiences that the folks at Cupertino had been trying out new developments, but that their presence was a 'trade off between security and openness.'
"We want both," he said. "We'll find a way to let 3rd parties write apps and still preserve security on the iPhone. But until we find that way we can't compromise the security of the phone. I've used 3rd party apps, the more you add, the more your phone crashes."
It seems then that any additional fun and games won't be found when the iPhone launches in the States next month. Jobs did say that we should all 'be patient' though.
We're keeping everything crossed, just in case the European launch includes access to some of those hallowed third party programs.
Stay tuned for more on D: All Things Digital, including the skinny on Jobs v Gates.
