Sony has announced that The Last Of Us, currently the top selling game in the UK at retail, has topped sales of 3.4 million copies. The sales include both physical and digital purchases of the title.
Sony says that the impressive sales figures make Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic survival horror game the "fastest selling new software title" in the PS3 console's history.
"These sales figures are a testament to the blockbuster quality of The Last of Us," Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said.
""The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none, this title is an undisputed demonstration of that," he added.
The Last Of Us was released at the beginning of June to massive critical acclaim and has remained a permanent fixture atop the UK video games retail sales chart ever since.
The Last Of Us is also the first game released all year that has remained the UK's top seller at retail for four consecutive weeks. Previous top sellers Dead Island: Riptide and BioShock Infinite only managed three weeks at the top of the chart. This feat is made all the more impressive, when one considers that The Last Of Us is exclusive to the PS3.
