Following numerous delays and repeated near appearances The Daily, the iPad newspaper collaboration between News Corp and Apple is to be officially launched on February 2nd.
Announced via an event invitation sent to industry press, Rupert Murdoch will take to the stage of the Guggenheim Museum in New York next Wednesday to officially out The Daily iPad newspaper alongside the subscription-based app service Apple is said to be launching alongside the publication and which was pegged as the cause of the most recent delayed arrival on January 19th.
Whilst the launch announcement gives little else away on the upcoming Daily release, the new arrival date fits with the revelations Rupert Murdoch’s son and News Corp head James Murdoch made earlier this week when he said: “I think should be launching in the next few weeks.”
Expanding on The Daily at the DLD Conference in Munich recently, Murdoch Jnr proclaimed: “It’s going to be a brand new piece of journalism. We want to get out there quickly, at a good price, and I think it will surprise people. I also think it will succeed or fail on the journalism part, not the bells and whistles.”
Leaking the yet to be confirmed Daily pricing Murdoch followed on to say: “We wanted it to have a very good price, affordable for most people, at 99 cents a week. It lowers the barrier for people to enjoy high quality journalism.”
