Tech Week: Samsung Galaxy Tablet and Apple launch

Plus: BlackBerry Torch review and IFA 2010 expectations

Yet another busy week in tech has past us by, here are our highlight from the past seven days, enjoy.

News of the Week
The much anticipated Samsung Galaxy Tablet has arrived this week. Well, not in stores or anything but with an official video from Samsung show of the Galaxy Tablet in all its glory. This legitimate unveiling came just days after the Galaxy tab appeared on video riding a train down under. All is not sunshine and rainbows for Samsung, however, as a number of Samsung Galaxy S users have reported a bug with the handset this week. A fix is already on the way for the Android powered handset but that was a close one.

Microsoft and Sony are set to butt heads in the lead up to Christmas as both companies bring out motion-controlled gaming systems for their respective consoles. Whilst screens of the Xbox styled Kinect dashboard have leaked this week, Sony has openly declared Move will not be an opening day success, instead relying heavily on word-of-mouth to achieve good sales. Splitting the peripherals further is the news that the upcoming Lord of the Rings title will be made compatible with Move whilst Harry Potter is to get the controller-less Kinect treatment. Ding, ding, round 54.

Nothing creates a buzz in the tech world like the news of an upcoming Apple event and good news, Apple has announced a ‘Special Event’ for September 1st. One of the hotly tipped new products for the Apple event is the revamped iPod Touch but leaked cases for a new Nano suggest a 1.7-inch touchscreen PMP on the way. Again Apple hasn’t batted 100 per cent over the past seven days refusing to let its iPhone handsets be included in O2’s new green rating system for mobile devices.

Google is the proud owner of this week’s top launch as it adds a calling system to its Gmail and search offerings. Further boosting this free calling service is the news that Google is to install Google calls capable phone booths in airports and universities to further aid your free communication needs. Proving successful in the opening 24 hours, the Google calls system logged one million calls.Another launch from the big G this week saw the arrival of Real Time search, which as you might expect does what it says on the tin.
