Tech Week: HTC Desire HD lands and Halo: Reach launch

Yet another busy week in tech has past us by, here are our highlight from the past seven days, enjoy.

News of the Week
It has been a wonderful week in the world of tech with new products popping up left right and centre. Leading the charge however, was HTC as the Taiwanese company announced two new handsets at its London conference. Following the official unveiling of the 4.3-inch LCD display touting HTC Desire HD, HTC also revealed the Android 2.2 HTC Desire Z handset. After the launch with the dust settling around the unveilings, UK service provider set it flying again announcing it will stock the HTC Desire HD for free on its one announced contract. We would say start saving your pennies ahead of the October release but in the meantime check out our HTC Desire HD review here.

The games industry had its fair share of big releases this week and they don’t come much bigger than Halo: Reach the final instalment to the Halo franchise. Prior to midnight openings a Halo Spartan soldier could be seen flying a jetpack through London. We at T3 caught up with the Gadget Show's Jason Bradbury at the Halo: Reach launch following which the game hit and rapidly left shelves, Microsoft revealed the new Halo title recorded a record $200 million in its opening 24 hours. Drinks are on Bungie and Microsoft this weekend then.

Elsewhere on the gaming front and Sony wasn’t going to sit back and let Microsoft enjoy all of the week’s limelight and glory, oh no. Friday saw the long awaited launch of Sony’s PlayStation Move motion-controlled gaming peripheral ahead of the controller-free version due later in the year from Microsoft. Further trying to steal thunder from Xbox’s Halo launch, Sony unveiled that the PS3 will finally support 3D Blu-ray movies from the start of next week, Tuesday September 21st to be precise.

Whilst all of the above product announcements are huge developments in the tech industry, the killer blow, the story that really wowed us this week was the unveiling of the 2010 T3 Hot 100, a professionally compiled list of the biggest movers and shakers in the industry over the past 12 months. Else where in T3 Towers this week we revealed the lucky winners of our August and September competitions. This followed giving over £200 worth of tech treats via our social networking streams in the ‘What’s on the Editor’s Desk’ competition.
