Tech Week: Call of Duty: Black Ops and Kinect released

News of the Week
In a week of big releases, one has stood out head and shoulders above the rest. Call of Duty: Black Ops released on Tuesday quickly secured opening day sales records in the UK, sales records in the US and more than 1 million online users by 1am of launch day. All this hype followed the revelation that Asda would offer the game for £4.97 and Blockbuster just 99p. All was not smooth for the CoD arrival, however, as many gamers have reported glitches in their Black Ops copies.

Following its arrival stateside last week, Microsoft Kinect launched in the UK this week. The UK arrival of Kinect came after the controller-less gaming gadget had its on-board cameras hacked in the US sparking a flurry of privacy concerns. Despite this one US retailer was willing to boldly declare that the Microsoft add-on will outsell Move, the PlayStation motion offering this festive period. Elsewhere in the gaming world, the long awaited and repeatedly delayed Gran Turismo 5 has been given an official launch date of November 24th.

With the tablet wars set to hot up in the new year with a brace of new competitors to the market leading Apple iPad, RIM took the time this week to release some key, and exciting, information about its upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. As well as getting info on a possible February 2011 arrival, RIM’s CEO declared that the PlayBook will land in the US for under $500. Interested yet?

Samsung officially unveiled the Samsung Continuum Android 2.1 powered handset this week with leaks coming later on of other new Sammy devices, an Android 2.3 running number and the Samsung Nexus S. Elsewhere in the mobile world in the past seven days, creators of the Flash enabling iPhone app SkyFire have netted a cool $1 million and the Apple iPhone is set to add 3D capabilities in the near future.
