Team Fortress 2 Free to Play forever on Steam

Valve's cartoonish shoot-em-up free to new players

New Team Fortress 2 players can now download a Steam copy for free.

Valve's cartoon-y first person shooter, Team Fortress 2, has been made completely free to Steam users on both Mac and PC.

Team Fortress 2, which was released along with Half Life Episode 2 and Portal as part of the Orange Box back in 2007, pits opposing teams of players against each other in online deathmatches, with players battling it out using nine fixed classes of combatant - from the lantern-jawed, machine gun-toting heavy to the balaclava-sporting spy.

Gamers who download the free version of the game will be able to play the same maps, classes and game types as players who purchased Team Fortress 2 before it was Free to Play. Players who purchased the game previously will receive a special in-game hat for their characters as a reward.
