Teac goes retro with the LP-R500 audio system

Golden oldie...

Teac has been inspired by the past for its LP-R500 audio system - but has kept one foot firmly in the present.

Indeed, if you're looking for a player for all your old formats, this could be the one, with a record deck and cassette player sat proudly on the top. We half expected an 8-track and Minidisc too, but sadly there's no sign, unless they're hidden on the back. There's also an FM radio, which only adds to the antiquated feel.

So can anything save it? Well, yes - there's a CD recorder built into the front. Which means you can pump out your silver discs through the substantial built-in speakers or you can back up your old tapes and vinyl straight to CD. Suddenly we like it, although not enough to pay £445. Yep, that's the equivalent asking price in Japan. If Teac could knock it down to £250 for a UK launch, we could be talking business.
