T-Mobile offers BlackBerry for one-off fee

But calls still charged at pay-as-you-go rates

Fancy a BlackBerry but don't really want the long-term contract commitment? See your local T-Mobile dealer, which is offering the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 for a one-off fee of £179.99.

In truth, it's not a million miles away from the offer Orange is currently running for the same handset, with one significant difference - the T-Mobile deal includes a year's unlimited email and internet access, but not any inclusive calls. The Orange deal charges £5 per month for email and net access, but does come at a cheaper price. Swings and roundabouts you might say, but doing the maths, T-Mobile's offer does come in just a little bit cheaper. Although you might have to pay through the nose at the end of your 12-month free data period.

There's also another drawback about both deals - the handset itself. The BlackBerry Pearl 8110 isn't your typical BlackBerry and its distinctive 'half QWERTY' keyboard is something you'll love or really, really hate. But it does offer a decent set of features, including a camera, built-in GPS and a card slot to bump up the internal 64MB of memory, not to mention all the email you can push.
