T-Mobile launches MDA Compact V smartphone
Widget-packing slimline smartphone
If the MDA Compact V smartphone has a familiar look to it, that just might be because you've seen our in-depth reviews of the handset in its original form, when it was the HTC Touch Diamond 2. Now rebadged, it's here in the UK and on the shelves of T-Mobile.
Sadly, it doesn't feature Windows Mobile 6.5 (as suggested at launch), instead falling back on the more familiar WinMo 6.1 for its operating system. Ok, that might be a downer, but read on, there's more to this phone than you might think.
For a start, the MDA Compact V puts a big tick in the style box, that slim sleek, glossy black case certain to get you noticed on the morning train. Not just a pretty face either, offering up a full 3.2-inch touchscreen, support for widgets (including eBay, the BBC and Twitter), a 5-megapixel camera, high-speed HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, along with a multi-platform messaging client (Gmail, AOL, Yahoo! Messenger or MSN Messenger).
If that's not enough, T-Mobile is also throwing in a 2GB microSD card and if you're one of the first 10,000 to sign up for one (we guess you will), 18 months of sat nav, courtesy of the built-in GPS and CoPilot. All of that will set you back £50 per month for 18 months.
