Latest Apple phone laughs in the face of the credit crunch

Apple's Steve Jobs is ready to declare victory for Apple in the smartphone wars as the iPhone 3G S shifts 1million handsets inside three days.

After the hype comes the real test of a phone's merits - the number of sales clocked up through the tills. It's a test Apple's newly-launched iPhone 3G S has passed with ease, hitting the one million sales mark in just three days.

Yes, despite the worry of a credit crunch, the concern of ongoing contracts, the possible threat of the Palm Pre (in the US at least) and the suspicion that there might not be quite enough new stuff on board to tempt regular punters to upgrade, one million people have felt the thrill of unboxing Apple's latest baby between Friday 19th June and Sunday 21st June 2009.

Steve Jobs was so thrilled, he even left recovery from his liver transplant to make a statement: 'Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning,' said the Apple CEO. 'With over 50,000 applications available from Apple’s revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever.'

That's not the only milestone clocked up by Apple over the weekend, the company also announced that six million customers have downloaded the new iPhone 3.0 software in the first five days since its release, which is a bit like getting a phone upgrade for free anyway.
