Stephen Fry to stay on Twitter after ending row with follower

Fry claims he was "caught at a vulnerable time".

Twitter pioneer Stephen Fry will continue to tweet after threatening to leave over a war-of-words with a fellow user who labelled his postings "boring".

The legendary actor and tech blogger claimed he was retiring from Twitter because of the "aggression and unkindness" around, but a change of heart and a swarm of support from some of his 900,000 followers convinced him to stay.

After the "boring" accusation, Fry, who is T3's Gadget Personality of the Year replied on Saturday: "You've convinced me. I'm obviously not good enough. I retire from Twitter henceforward. Bye everyone."

This sent a barrage of abuse the way of the offending poster, while Fry added: "Think I may have to give up on Twitter, too much unkindness and around." The comic's surprising reaction came as he revealed he was feeling low and depressed and that unkind words make everything worse.

He soon reconsidered his decision to leave and called on his followers to go easy on the instigator of the row saying that "the poor guy had every right to call me boring."

The latest from our favourite tweeter is that he's feeling "more sheepish than a sheep" but normal service appears to have been resumed. Don't worry Stephen, when you have 900,000 followers, there's always going to be one meanie.

I never understand people who feel they have to comment on things they don't like in this way. If for example I find a TV Programme boring I don't watch it anymore and avoid it. If he finds the tweets boring just unfollow and move on. Steven Fry has over 900,000 followers so clearly plenty of people don't find him boring. I just don't understand the mentality of the individual in this case, although clearly people over reacted.
