Twitter launched #Music, the music discovery service, on Thursday. The app integrates with Spotify, iTunes, and Rdio on the Web and iOS. According to a social media analytics serivce, Simply Measured, more Spotify links were tweeted using #Music than iTunes.
iTunes previews can be played by default but Rdio and Spotify subscribers must log into their existing accounts to listen to full tracks. Users can either log into their Spotify/Rdio accounts in order to tweet the full song or have the option of tweeting a 30-second preview from iTunes.
The #Music app is divided into four sections; popular, emerging, suggested and #nowplaying.
The #Nowplaying hashtag was recorded by Simply Measured, the social media analytics and measurement service, who then created a breakdown of the first 24-hour period of Twitter's new app.
The #nowplaying tweets for each seperate music service showed that Spotify was used 11,984 times, iTunes 11,612 and Rdio a fair margin behind with 3,456.
According to Simply Measured, a total of 256,226 #nowplaying tweets were published with a rate of "four times the first 24 hours of Vine posts," The Next Web reports.
