Sony working on PSP phone?
Ready for an unveiling at CES 2010?
Few rumours have stood the test of time quite like the rumoured Sony PSP phone. Indeed, we have been hearing about one for months, but have been forced to settle with slightly less exciting products like the PSP Go and the PS3-friendly Sony Ericsson Aino. Well, that fabled phone could finally be on its way, if one Japanese newspaper is to be believed.
According to the Nikkei business daily, the new phone is still incoming, with a project team being assembled by Sony next month to create a new type of handheld which will combine the functions of the PSP console and a Sony Ericsson mobile phone. Yes, the same old rumour - except this is a rumour with a difference. It has authority.
You see, Nikkei doesn't go for speculation, it only publishes stories about new products when the facts are pretty much set in stone. So if Nikkei says it's happening, it very likely is. Makes sense for Sony too - with so many games publishers now looking at the iPhone and iPod touch for their portable wares, Sony might feel it is in danger of getting pushed out of the market. A new phone/console in early 2010 might be just what the doctor (and the accountant) ordered.
