Sony reconfirms PlayStation 3's PlayTV date and price
What it meant to say was seventy pounds.
Sony man David Reeves has confirmed the final launch details of the UK's PlayTV service - it will arrive on September 19th for £69.99.
Looks like the credit crunch is making even PlayStation 3 customers feel the pinch and Sony is taking cautionary steps to ensure that if there are and bundles of twenties going around in September, they'll be spent on PS3 accessories. This re-announcement highlights a £10 price drop since the last time Sony confirmed the launch details.
PlayTV is a digital video recorder for the PlayStation 3. The kit comes with a small accessory that contains two Freeview tuners. Once you hook up you're aerial, you can use the software built in Sony's Cambridge studio to watch, record, program, pause and do all the normal digital video recorder things, but right from your console.
The presence of two tuners means that you can watch one channel whilst recording another. You can also make recording while you play a game. Additionally, recordings made to the device can be streamed to connected PSP handheld devices.
Unfortunately the price drop wasn't the only change Sony has made. Where as it once promised all recordings made with PlayTV would be DRM free and available to use however you pleased. Now, none of the recordings can be moved. Instead, if you want to view anything remotely, you will have to stream it - you can't even copy content to your PSP.
