The Sony PlayStation Vita is the handheld that could bring Sony back as the king of handheld gaming, following disappointing sales of the Nintendo 3DS. But now a Sony spokesperson has confirmed you won't be able to download files larger than 20MB over 3G.
Sony PS Vita has 20MB download limit
Speaking to Japanese magazine ASCII, the spokesperson confirmed Sony has enforced the 20MB limit on files over 3G. No reason was given, though it will come in handy on stopping download-happy gamers going over their data allowances and incurring huge bills. The phone operators would also no doubt welcome the limit, as it means their networks won't have to shoulder a huge burden.
The limit will be in place from launch day in Japan (17 December), but there's no word on whether it'll apply to the UK and US versions too.
The limit may also change in the future, the spokesperson added.
Sony isn't alone with the 20MB limit though. Apple applies the same to its iOS devices. If you want any larger files, you'll need to log on to your local Wi-Fi hotspot.
