Move seen as way of consolidating top-end NEX-5.
Sony NEX-3 camera killed off
The Sony NEX-3 was much-loved here at T3 Towers when we first saw it last summer. But the entry-level interchangeable lens compact has been given the chop by the Big S, with punters favouring the sleeker, 1080p-packing NEX-5 instead.
Sony’s Japanese site says the camera isn’t being produced any more, but the range of NEX cameras is set to continue, with the NEX-5 and NEX-VG10 camcorder. That at least means NEX-3 owners will still be able to get hold of the E-mount lenses they need.
Sony was keen to trail the NEX-3 and NEX-5 as groundbreaking snappers, loading them up with a 3D update and trailing them as their Olympus PEN competitors.
