Sony flogs 40 million PS2s in Europe
It might sound like Sony has been knocking out cheap PS2 units from the back of a lorry, but the second-generation console has clocked up its 40 million sales over six years.
That figure is even more astounding when you consider it only accounts for PlayStation 2 games consoles sold throughout Europe and the PAL territories.
The 40 million mark beats Sony's previous record in Europe, which was held by the original PlayStation.
However, the PS2 has achieved its sales much quicker than its predecessor.
The PlayStation sold 39 million units overall but had sold just 33 million units in its first six years.
Sony could definitely do with the good news following recent recalls of exploding laptop batteries and delays to its next-generation PS3 console.
