Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 heading to O2

New Android effort landing in the autumn says network

Pared down version of X10 could still run on creaking Android 1.6 platform.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is on its way to O2. That’s the word straight from the network, which has just slapped up a placeholder on its official site, saying the phone will land in September.

For those at the back the X8 sits between the huge Xperia X10 and the slimline X10 Mini. It comes rocking a 3-inch panel, as well as the same Timescape and Mediscape UI as its older siblings, with a 3.2 megapixel snapper round the back.

It’s also got Android under the hood, although Sony Ericsson is being coy about which version, with some suggestions it could rock the ageing 1.6 edition of the OS. Seeing as Android 2.2 will be rampant come next month, SE had better ensure that’s not the case.
