The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 family recently was blessed with Android 2.1, but one thing was missing: no multi-touch.
However, the official Sony Ericsson blog has posted about their ongoing work to get pinch zoom for the Xperia X10.
Sony Ericsson will aim to release an over-the-air (OTA) update for the X10 to enable multi-touch or pinch zoom. Currently, there's no immediate date but the blog states that they aim to get it out during Q1 next year. The post says, "The timing for this update is still a bit work in progress but it will for most markets be during Q1 next year."
The plan is to enable pinch zoom in the web browser and Google Maps. The post adds, "Besides that there is also support in third party applications but because of the limitations on e.g. crossing axis there might be situations where it behaves strangely while it will work just fine for most use-cases."
They also warn enthusiastic Sony Ericsson fans not to expect multi-touch gaming.
However, with all the delays that set back Android 2.1 for the Xperia X10 series, we can only hope that this new feature lands on time.
