Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 announced with Android Rachael OS
Stylish and thin, the XPERIA X10 will go on sale early 2010
Sony Ericsson has introduced its first Android phone, the XPERIA X10. Running on Android with Sony Ericsson's custom overlay Rachael UX over the top, the XPERIA X10 will be launching in the UK in the first quarter of 2010.

Featuring a 4.0-inch screen with 480 x 854 pixels, the XPERIA X10 has an 8.1-megapixel camera (the largest on an Android phone to date), with a 16x digital zoom, auto focus, face recognition and geotagging. Inside, it's running on Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon processor, as seen in the Toshiba TG01, Acer Liquid and HTC HD2.
A-GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot round it off physically. The X10 will ship with an 8GB microSD card to compensate for the handset's poor internal memory.
The software is where the XPERIA X10 takes a running jump away from other new-wave Android handsets, such as the HTC Hero and Motorola Droid. Running on Android 1.6, Sony Ericsson will apparently offer the 2.0 Eclair upgrade as a firmware update at a later date. The skin Sony Ericsson has used is called UX by the company, but we know it as Rachael from previous leaks.
In true XPERIA fashion, the X10 has pre-loaded applications including Timescape which pulls in Facebook, Twitter, emails, texts and other forms of communication, much like Motorola's overlay MOTOBLUR does. The Mediascape panel does what it says on the tin, aggregating music and offering recommendations from PlayNow, in addition to organising photos and videos.
Out in early 2010, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 will be available in two colours - "sensuous black" and "luster white."
