Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and Dell Streak get Android update

Android 2.1 Eclair finally pegged for Xperia and Streak

Google OS updates for Sony Ericsson and Dell devices

Whilst Android 2.2 has been making headlines of late, it is FroYo’s younger incarnation, Android 2.1, Éclair that is currently creating a buzz as both the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and the micro tablet Dell Streak line up for the 2.1 upgrade.

Announced via the company’s Twitter feed, Sony Ericsson has confirmed that the Xperia X10 will be joining the Android 2.1 party by the end of September, early than the fourth quarter arrival that had been widely expected.

Piping the Xperia to the 2.1 stakes, however, is the Dell Streak which is set to get the Éclair update from tomorrow, September 1st. Launching in the US pre-loaded with Android 2.2, UK users of the Streak will be happy that they are finally moving up from the 1.6 edition of the Google mobile OS their devices currently run.

Although these 2.1 updates are eagerly awaited by the handsets’ users, the Xperia X10 and Dell Streak are still behind the Android 2.2 curve that is currently dominating leading Google powered handsets. Whilst there is no word on when Xperia will make the jump to 2.2, Dell’s tablet device is to get the FroYo treatment by the end of the year.
