Sony Ericsson Pureness handset gets exclusive UK launch

Not just a phone, it's a work of art

First spotted at the start of the month, Sony Ericsson's Xperia Pureness handset (formerly outed as the KiKi) is perhaps one of the strangest and certainly the most simplistic phone created by SE in a long, long time. The UK selling strategy for the handset is a bit out of the ordinary too.

If you want to own a super-skinny phone with a transparent display and a lack of features, it will set you back £530. Not from your average mobile phone emporium either, Sony Ericsson is pitching this as cutting edge design, so you'll have to head to a high-end department store or design dealer to get one. Specifically, that's set to be Selfridges or design museums shops.

According to Sony Ericsson's head of Brand Cathy Davies, the Pureness is an 'iconic niche product, not mass market' and as it's the first phone with a translucent screen, it's hard to argue that point. But as the Pureness is essentially a 'talk and text' phone, we can't see too many takers in today's app-hungry market.

But if style is streets ahead of substance in your world, look out for the Pureness in November. You want to get saving right now - and don't forget to filter in the cost of those calls and texts.
