Sony confirms 80GB PS3 will hit Europe August 27th, for £299
The new 60GB Xbox 360 has tough competition from Sony's 80GB offering
Can we gloat already that we totally called this back in February? The latest news to be leaked out of E3 is that Sony has announced the 80GB PS3, which was confirmed for the US market on Tuesday, will also be destined for European gamers' houses, come August 27th.
T3 readers will remember that we reported back in February that Sony was readying a new PS3, claiming that in addition to a slimmer casing, it would have more storage capacity. We're as yet to see the slimmer version of the PS3, but hopefully it will be wheeled out before the year's end, as our shelves are groaning under the weight of the current hefty model.
Priced at £299, the 80GB model is going to replace the 40GB model, and will be released simultaneously across the continent, at 399 Euros. It will include integrated Wi-Fi and an inbuilt Blu-ray player, however still won't be backwards compatible with PS2 games sadly. Adding to our grief, the company's video download service won't be available to the PAL region either. Time to invest in one of Microsoft's new 60GB Xbox 360s, maybe?

can anyone tell me whether PS3 is a good thing to buy to be connected to a home theatre system of onkyo (HT-S5100)?

I have just ordered the new playstation 3 80gb which I thought was a great deal as i've wanted to start my blu-ray collection, I found a really good site playstation 3 80gb which compared all the big names and came out with zivvi as the cheapest, but only buy £1! Trouble is I've now read that a 160gb version is due :-( wonder if it's too late to cancel!
