Sega has said it’s working towards the release of Sonic The Hedgehog 4, Episode 2, in 2012. The news comes a year after Episode 1 was released to mixed reviews, with the 2D platform game criticised for rehashing old levels.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Sega’s Takashi Iikuka said, “Moving forward to 2012, Sonic will still be going, so I'd hope to provide Episode 2 then." Responding to questions about whether Sony had been slow to release Episode 2, he said, “It was always the plan. We knew about the anniversary year [of Sonic in 2011], and [Sonic] Generations was planned way in advance. It was always our plan to release Episode 2 after Generations."
Either way, Sony will need to address gamers complaints about Episode 1, ideally bringing back the old-school style Sonic and making levels look and feel different to those found on the Mega Drive.
