Smartphone app claims to eradicate driver distractions

App uses GPS to disable notifications when users are travelling over 10MPH

UK car insurance company Esure has released an app that prevents drivers from being distracted while behind the wheel

DriveOff, the new app from Esure, switches off all other phone apps and prevents incoming calls and texts – ensuring no distractions while you’re on the road.

The application uses GPS to detect when users are driving over 10MPH, then automatically disables notifications.

Recent research reveals that 84 percent of drivers use some sort of gadget while driving, with a 23 per cent longer reaction time to hazards when drivers are trying to send a text.

The app is available free for Android devices via Google Play. No word on iPhone availability yet, however we’re told that Esure is hoping it will appear soon.
