Cycle helmets aren't usually seen as an area associated with cutting edge gadgety, but the LifeBEAM smart helmet is aiming to change that.
With a state of the art optical physiological sensor, accelerometer and wireless communication, the helmet has been designed to measure a cyclists vitals without the usual chest straps and other monitoring equipment.
According to the company behind the helmet, the technology was originally developed for fighter pilots and astronauts.
It is currently trying to secure funding for the new helmet via crowd funding platform Indiegogo. With wearable technology expected to become a major market in the next five years, this sort of product is likely to prove popular with health tech enthusiasts.
