Skype urgent update fixes messaging bug

Users have been reporting a bug within Skype that has been sending segments of messages to completely different contacts resulting in much confusion

Skype has issued an emergency hotfix for a Skype bug which resulted in some users having parts of their messages being sent to completely different contacts.

The bug was identified just a few days ago when users began complaining to Skype that parts of their IM conversations had been accidentally sent to completely unrelated users.

Skype has since confirmed the bug exists saying, "Based on recent Skype customer community posts and our own investigation over the past couple of days, we have identified a bug that we are working hard to fix."

"Although we cannot determine precisely how many users may have been affected by this error, we believe the number is small given the very specific circumstances under which the error occurs."

The bug appears to affect only those who are running Skype 5.10 for Windows, Skype 5.8 for Mac, Skype 4.0 for Linux, Skype 1.2 for Windows Phone with iOS and Android users unaffected.

If you're running any of the versions affected Skype urgently advises you to download the latest version of Skype here where the hotfix has been applied and should rectify the issue.
