Skype officially lands on the iPhone

iPhone and iPod touch get free worldwide calls

We gave you the heads up on this yesterday and now it's finally here - Skype for the iPhone and iPod touch.

And it delivers just about everything you might expect, all wrapped up in a nice, Apple-friendly package. Topping the bill is, of course, free Skype-to-Skype calls from any Wi-Fi connection to any worldwide user. A potentially huge money-saver if you have friends and family in far-flung locations. And if you want to get in touch with a landline via Wi-Fi, you can save a bit there too with Skype's cut-price call packages.

Other iPhone Skype features include the ability to send or receive instant messages via your mobile network or W-Fi, the option to receive calls at a personal online number on Skype and all your Skype contacts in your pocket. You can even update your profile page (including image) from your handset, should you get the urge to give yourself a makeover on the move. Ok, it can't make calls over your phone's data connection, but aside from that, it's a no-brainer. Go get it now (although you will need a compatible microphone and headset first if you use a touch).
