Sky Sports News app launched for iPhone and iPad

Free app brings Sky Sports News back after Freeview departure

Free app lands Sky Sports News on Apple devices

Having dropped its Sky Sports News channel from Freeview recently BSkyB has now launched its official Sky Sports News application bringing free sporting news content to the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Bringing what you would expect from a Sky Sports News feed, the app offers dedicated areas for Football, Cricket, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Golf, Tennis, F1 and Boxing. If all that wasn’t enough the app features a fully customisable homescreen allowing users to tailor content to their specific wants and needs.

Video clips and audio streaming make up the app’s multimedia content along side live video streaming with Sky Mobile TV. Adding to the live content, Sky has thrown live results, fixtures lists, league tables and the Sky Sports News ticker into the mix for what is expected to be a top flight news app.

Free to download from the App Store the Sky Sports News app could soon be facing stiff competition from a BBC Sports counterpart set for release following the success of the BBC News app released recently for the iPhone and iPad.
