Sky and zeebox have teamed up with new social features and enhanced mobile applications set to bolster the Sky television experience
As much attention is heaped on the UK arrival of Netflix, established UK broadcasting force Sky has announced it is to partner with social TV experience zeebox to offer a more immersive array of bespoke TV bolstering mobile applications.
Offering an ‘augmented TV’ experience the new Sky and zeebox collaboration will see users of the bespoke Sky apps, Sky Go and Sky+, given the chance to see what their friends are watching, gain further information on current and upcoming shows and communicate with those they know all from their smartphone and tablet devices.
Further enhancing the current array of Sky applications the new zeebox features are set to be introduced ‘later this year’ enabling subscribers to better manage their Sky+ box and recordings remotely.
“Sky took an early position of leadership with companion devices, having recognised the demand from our customers to use second screens to discover, enjoy and interact with their favourite content,” said Emma Lloyd, Sky’s Director of Emerging Products.
“The integration of zeebox’s innovative technology will enable us to make the companion device experience even richer and more engaging. We know that millions of our customers have smartphones and tablets and regularly use them to engage with Sky on mobile devices, so it’s a natural next step for us.”
