Skobbler launches offline iPhone ForeverMap app

Google Maps rival puts Europe in your pocket

Switch off your roaming data and let good ol' fashioned maps guide you

iPhone navigation tool skobbler has launched a new offline solution with the ForeverMap app that will download detailed maps of Europe onto your smartphone.

ForeverMap, which costs £2.49 to download, aims to end the misery of roaming data charges by only using the device's GPS and a fully downloaded map, rather than the 3G connection.

Once you've bought the app, the full OpenStreetMap index will be downloaded to your iPhone where it will remain stored, meaning you'll never have to trouble your mobile data connection for information.

It can, like Google Maps Navigation, calculate the best route, the distance and the estimated time of arrival as well as flag up points of interest such as restaurants and gas stations along the way.

As a money-saver on that Euro road trip to watch Liverpool play in Bucharest in the Europa League this season, this could be invaluable. It's also great for iPad and iPod touch users who don't have the benefit of a 3G connection on their devices.
