The return of the blue hedgehog confirmed by SEGA

SEGA has confirmed the blue hedgehog will return with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II in 2012 for Xbox Live, PSN and mobile platforms

SEGA has released a teaser trailer of the upcoming game promising a villain and a sidekick avid fans have seen before - Metal Sonic and the Tails.

The company promises all-new character animations and "a completely reworked physics engine".

The game will support Android mobile devices that are powered by the NVIDIA Tegra mobile processor. It will also support Tegra 3, the new quad-core processor, which will soon be seen in the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime.

It will be made available on XBLA, PSN, and mobile platforms including the App Store, Android Market and Xbox LIVE on Windows Phone 7.

"After twenty years in action, it’s clear that Sonic hasn’t slowed down one bit," said Haruki Satomi, Senior Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA of America.

The exact release date is as yet unknown.
