Samsung sets the world alight with the NV9 and NV100HD cameras, containing 10.2 and 14.7 megapixels

720p video from a £229 digital camera? We'll take six!

It's a day of product launches, with Samsung announcing the NV9 and NV100HD models for its NV series of digital cameras.

Boasting a 5x optical zoom, the 10.2-megapixel camera has a 2.7" LCD screen and ISO of 3200, and includes features we've come to expect, like Dual Image Stabilisation, Auto Contrast Balance and the Perfect Portrait system.

The mini-dashboard, on the other hand, updates users on the battery and memory status, which is all too often overlooked by camera manufacturers. Recording at 30fps, the DV9 allows on-the-fly editing of video, which can be uploaded to computers in an MJPEG codec. If you thought that was all, think again - they've also squeezed in MP3 and PMP capabilities, presumably playable from the memory card slot.

The flagship of the NV range is however the NV100HD, which is the world's highest 14.7-megapixel 28mm wide angle lens camera. Bit of a claim, there. Still, with those 14.7-megapixels, it can record HD video at a 720p resolution and even contains an HDMI and CEC output. Video is recorded at 30fps, and is viewable not only on the 3.0-inch hVGA LCD screen, but also on a TV, if you connect it via HDMI.

An ISO of 3200 plus the usual host of features, it's bound to make every punter an amateur pornographer film-maker.

Both the NV9 and NV100HD will be available from August, with the NV9 offered in black, silver or pink colourways, for £179. The NV100HD will be offered in premium colours of gold, silver, black and red, for £229, with both models containing a rechargeable battery system.
