Samsung launches free 3D VOD service in the UK
Samsung has announced it is to make on-demand 3D content readily available in the UK with the launch of its free 3D VOD service for compatible Samsung TVs.
Made available through a dedicated app on the company’s Samsung Smart TV platform dubbed ‘Explore 3D’, the 3D video-on-demand service will launch today bringing 20 extra dimensional videos, music videos, children’s classis, documentaries and trailers to 3DTVs free of charge.
Building on the currently limited array of 3D content, the new Samsung Explore 3D app will continue to grown throughout the year with 70 free 3D videos to be available by the end of 2011.
Speaking on the launch Andy Griffiths, Vice President of Consumer Electronics with Samsung UK announced: The demand for 3D is growing rapidly, but only a handful of channels are providing content. Samsung has led the 3D LED TV market since it launched last year, and the roll-out of our 3D video-on-demand service demonstrates our commitment to accelerating its growth.”
He added: “We believe that in the near future every viewer will have access to 3D content in the comfort of their own living room through a Smart TV. We will therefore continue to develop our Smart TV offering in order to provide consumers with the best viewing experience possible.”
Sky and LG recently announced that it was offering access to Sky 3D, Europe's only 3D channel for free to Sky World HD customers. The duo is also offering cashback on a range of LG 3D TVs packed with seven pairs of 3D glasses.
The full array of internet-connect 3D-capable Samsung Smart TVs can access the Explore 3D application today.
