Galaxy S3 beat iPhone 4S as best-selling phone in Q3 2012
The Samsung Galaxy S3 beating the iPhone 4S to become the best-selling phone of Q3 will be seen as a big win for Samsung despite many analysts citing the iPhone 5 launch as the reason
The Samsung Galaxy S3 overtook the Apple iPhone 4S in Q3 2012 to become the world's best-selling smartphone according to industry analysts from Strategy Analytics.
For the first time ever Samsung's 4.8-inch smartphone beat Apple shipping 18 million units in the third quarter of this year. Apple's iPhone 4S only shipped 16.2 million putting it in second place.
The same analytics company however speculated that much of the reason for this was down to anticipation for the iPhone 5 launch which took place a few weeks ago.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal the representative speculated about the next quarter saying, "We expect the new iPhone 5 to out-ship Samsung's Galaxy S3 in the coming fourth quarter of 2012 and Apple should soon reclaim the title of the world's most popular smartphone model."
Samsung's Galaxy S3 has been highly praised by the media thanks to its large retina display-beating screen and slim profile. It was also one of the first quad-core smartphone released boasting huge power increases over its predecessors.
Running Android Jelly Bean the S3 allows users to watch video in a stand-alone box whilst multi-tasking and comes with Samsung's rival to Siri, S Voice letting you ask the smartphone questions.
