Resident Evil 6 will see complete franchise overhaul

Classic game will be rebuilt for latest outing

Raccoon City set for a reboot?

Capcom has promised a complete renovation of the much-loved Resident Evil franchise for the sixth installment of the game.

The gory third-person survival game, which is yet to have a confirmed release schedule, will pay homage to the legacy of the series but boast a full rebuild compared to Resident Evil 5.

Capcom producer Masachicka Kawata says: "The series will see a complete renovation with the next entry on every level. But we can't forget about all the previous entries that have led to the creation of many possibilities for the franchise,"

While Resident Evil 5 proved a moderately successful addition for the series we first saw back on the PSone, it's obvious that Capcom feels that things need to be freshened up a little bit in Raccoon City.

A spin-off title Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, set between the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3 is set to launch on consoles and PCs later this year.

We just hope they keep the Zombies around for episode 6
